Discrepancies is a series of small wooden cubes colored with very thin layers of oil paint. Right from the beginning when I started to work on these small objects I was instantly caught by fascination, how the material, the warmth and naturalness of the wood and the aesthetics of the square shape interacted. I had long been looking for a way to work with the natural warm aesthetics of wood without covering or even concealing the sensation of its natural texture with paint. It still should be light and vivid in perception, a balance between the natural wood and the effect of the color. By applying the paint very thinly with highly diluted oil paint the wooden texture becomes even more apparent and, in my eyes, takes on a special visibility and value.
The "tamed" form of the wood as a shaped cube evokes a sense of discrepancy in me: wood does not appear here in its original natural form, but is processed, trimmed, brought into a strict form - and yet still appears light and lively.
The series discrepancies consist of about 20 cubes in the sizes 20x20x3cm, 20x20x6cm, 15x15x3cm, 15x15x6cm, each painted in one color with different hues of red, yellow, blue, black, green. The arrangement of the colored cubes on the wall can be set freely.
