Composizione venezia was created during a two-week artist residency in Venice’s historic Ghetto Vecchio. While closely related to the color flash works, the paintings introduce an important material variation within the artist’s ongoing investigation of color and perception.

The format remains unchanged at 40 × 40 × 4.5 cm. The decisive difference lies in the medium: instead of oil paint, the artist worked with acrylic paint mixed with Venetian pigments. The series originated from an interest in exploring how her established method of applying highly diluted layers of color would behave when transferred from oil to acrylic.

The change of medium significantly influences the visual and material qualities of the works. The surfaces appear more matte and chalk-like, creating a different depth and presence than the oil paintings. These qualities resonate with visual impressions of Venice—its aged walls, plaster surfaces, and the muted colors of the lagoon.

Rather than depicting the city, the works reflect a process of material experimentation shaped by a specific place and working situation. The series documents how a change in medium can alter the character of a painting while remaining consistent with the artist’s broader exploration of color, light, and surface.
